Do Albertans Want to Leave Canada?

2026-03-23 — PatrickLancasterNewsToday — original

I traveled to Calgary, Alberta, Canada to investigate one of the most controversial political questions in the country right now — could Alberta actually leave Canada?
In recent years, talk of Alberta independence has been growing. Some Albertans say the province contributes far more to the Canadian economy than it receives back from the federal government. Others believe the separatist movement is small and has little real support.
In this report, I speak directly with people on the streets of Calgary to hear what they think about the possibility of Alberta separating from Canada.
Is it a democratic movement for self-determination, or is it treason against the country?
Some people I spoke with say Alberta has the natural resources and economic strength to survive as an independent state. Others argue the movement is exaggerated and that the majority of Canadians do not support separation.
